The Fashionable Times Blog Principal's Message 5.1.16

Greetings Fashion Families from your Principal, Daryl Blank.  I hope your children had a wonderful Spring Break!  We are officially in the home stretch of the school year as we have six weeks of classes left until Regents exams.  The grades that your child receives in June will be the grades that colleges evaluate them on.  Students failing classes will be programmed for Summer school.  Please make sure you are touching base with your child and checking Jupiter Grades to know where your student stands in their classes.

This Monday is a ‘First Monday’ schedule where students will start school later and be dismissed from school early so that our staff can meet in teacher teams for professional development.  Students who begin school 1st period will start at 8:30 am.  Students who begin school 2nd period will start at 9:09 am.  Students who finish school after 8th period will be dismissed at 1:43 pm.  Students who finish school after 9th period will be dismissed at 2:22 pm.

Our student work showcases continue this Friday, May 6 with the opening of our Senior Art Show immediately after school.  Our students’ work will be displayed all over our school lobby.  It is always a pleasure to walk into the building once this art show is on display.

In other important information for all parents, we have made some office space changes.  The school’s Main office is now in Room 125 on the first floor immediately to the left when you walk in.  The Attendance office is now in Room 134 on the first floor, again to the left when you walk in and not too far from the new Main office.  The old main office, Room 201, will soon be a new computer lab for our students full of computers and printers.

The Fashionable Times Blog Principal's Message 4.17.16

Greetings Fashion Families from your Principal, Daryl Blank.  We are officially in the home stretch of the school year as we are in the third and last marking period.  Report cards for the second marking period will be distributed to students on Wednesday.  The grades that your child receives in June will be the grades that colleges evaluate them on.  Students failing classes will be programmed for Summer school.  Please make sure you are touching base with your child and checking Jupiter Grades to know where your student stands in their classes.

As you are planning your schedule for the week I hope you can attend our April Parents Association meeting this Wednesday, April 20 at 6:00 pm in Room 829.

This Wednesday is an exciting day at HSFI when we host a Health Fair organized by our Falcon Health Center.  All Fashion students will be able to visit this Health Fair that will highlight healthy living through many different organizations.  95% of our students are signed up for services at the Falcon Health Center and this health fair is just another way that our school looks out for our students.  Please encourage your children to attend this event.

Our student work showcases continue on Wednesday after the amazing SING production that took place this past weekend.  The opening of our photography exhibition in partnership with the International Center of Photography will be this Wednesday, April 20, at 3:30 pm in Room 821.  HSFI and the International Center of Photography have developed a tremendous relationship over the past decade.  This celebration showcases the photos taken by our students in this program and they will be on display in the Principal’s conference room.

Remember this is the last week of school before our Spring Break.  Once we get back from Spring Break, we will have six weeks of classes until Regents exams.

The Fashionable Times Blog Principal's Message 4.10.16

Greetings Fashion Families from your Principal, Daryl Blank.  The second marking period ends this Wednesday and we will be officially in the home stretch of the school year in the third and last marking period.  The grades that your child receives in June will be the grades that colleges evaluate them on.  Students failing classes will be programmed for Summer school.  Please make sure you are touching base with your child and checking Jupiter Grades to know where your student stands in their classes.

Again this week I want to showcase the SING musical production that will take place this Friday, April 15 at 7:00 pm & this Saturday, April 16 at 5:00 pm.  Please encourage your child to attend both shows.  It would be amazing if you could attend with them.  Most of the HSFI teaching staff is offering students extra credit for attending both SING productions in support of the over 100 students who have been working extremely hard since January on the SING production.  It would be amazing to have a full house in our inaugural year of SING.

Here is some important information about SING that you need to know:
● Tickets are $4 for one show / $5 for both shows – tickets will be on sale in our school store and student cafeteria over the next 2 weeks.  Every cent of the ticket sales will be invested into next year’s SING production – the goal is that SING becomes a fixture at HSFI.
● There are 2 shows each night – the 9th and 11th graders are working together on one show / the 10th and 12th graders are working together on the other show
● The show is a competition where we will have judges that evaluate the show in different categories based off a production rubric – points will be combined over the 2 nights and a winning show will be named at the end.
● Most importantly, everything you see and hear is student produced under the guidance of our dedicated HSFI staff – the script, the acting, the songs, the dancing, the scenery – Performing Arts are alive and well at HSFI!
