Greetings Fashion Families from your Principal, Daryl Blank.  Two weeks to go until Regents exams begin.  After school and weekend tutoring has begun.  Tutoring schedules for Math, Global History, United States History, Living Environment and Earth Science are on the school website.  Please make sure you are touching base with your child and they are going to the tutoring they need.

An important announcement for HSFI Parents is that this Wednesday, June 1 is a testing day for students who are taking the Common Core Trigonometry and Integrated Algebra exams.  If your child is not taking one of these exams, they do not attend school on this date.

Please take a look at a draft of our Grading Policy for next school year (it was attached to the weekly email I sent out) – the main change is going from letter grades to numeric grades – teachers would give numeric grades from 65-100.  For example, if a student had a 73 average, their report card grade would be 73.  If a student had a 96 average, their report card grade would be 96.  There would be one failing grade – 55.  The grading policy was so far been supported by the School Leadership Team, the HSFI Parents Association, our student government and our HSFI staff.  Please email me directly at dblank@schools.nyc.gov if you have concerns about the grading policy.

I want to invite all Fashion parents to our May Parents Association meeting this coming Wednesday, May 25 at 6:00 pm in Room 829.

An important announcement for HSFI Parents is that Wednesday, June 1 is a testing day for students who are taking the Common Core Trigonometry and Integrated Algebra exams.  If your child is not taking one of these exams, they do not attend school on this date.

A new feature has been added to NYC Schools Account (NYCSA), which will require all parents or guardians who use NYCSA to validate their email address in order to continue to view their child’s data. Going forward, after creating their account, all new users will receive an email from NYCSA asking them to click on a link to validate their email address. Upon signing in to their NYC Schools Account, current users will be asked to confirm their email address by September 30, if they have not already done so. Beginning October 1, users who have not yet validated their email address will be unable to access their child’s data in NYCSA until they do so.

Our annual Fashion Show and accompanying Window Displays were phenomenal!  Thank you to all the HSFI families that attended one of our two shows this past Friday and Saturday.  This coming Wednesday will be doing another show for the NYC Fashion Industry with some major players from the fashion world.  This show is a fundraiser for HSFI through our Advisory Board of fashion industry professional who volunteer to help out the school.

Here are two important announcements for HSFI Parents:

#1 – The May Parents Association meeting will be rescheduled for next Wednesday, May 25 and not take place this week as originally scheduled.

After an amazing senior art show this past Friday, our student work showcases continue this Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14 with our Annual Fashion Show.   This show is the culmination of four years of hard work by our students and it would be great to have a full house to support them. 

HSFI has recently purchased a new online system that will enable us to handle purchases online. The hope is that we will be able to expand this system next year to include all school store items as well as other student purchases such as tickets and senior graduation packages.   

This week we have opened the system to accept the purchase of tickets to this coming week's Fashion Show.   There are 3 types of tickets:

Friday’s Night Show is at 6 pm for $10

Saturday’s Night Show is at 6 pm for $10

We also have a special Gala package for Saturday’s Show which is $25

As with all our shows, all the money collected will be invested into next year’s show.

All students already have an account and can sign in by following the directions on the site's main page which is: https://webstores.activenetwork.com/school-software/high_school_of_fashi/

However, you do not need an account to purchase tickets to the show.  Finally, all tickets must be picked up in the school store and your child must bring the online order receipt with them to get the tickets.

As a reminder for all parents, we have made some office space changes.  The school’s Main office is now in Room 125 on the first floor immediately to the left when you walk in.  The Attendance office is now in Room 134 on the first floor, again to the left when you walk in and not too far from the new Main office.  The old main office, Room 201, will soon be a new computer lab for our students full of computers and printers.
