The Fashionable Times Blog Principal's Message 1.21.19

Greetings Fashion Families from your Principal, Daryl Blank.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

The Fall term has ended and January Regents will take place this week from Tuesday, January 22 through Friday, January 25.  Check with your child about whether or not they are scheduled to take any exams.  Regents exam invitations have been distributed to students.  If students do not have Regents exams, they do not report to school.  A large majority of our students do not have Regents exams – all 11th graders are taking the English Regents and students who previously were not successful on exams or want to get a higher grade, have the opportunity to take exams again.

When students come to school for these Regents exams they should bring: (1) Exam ticket (2) Student identification card and (3) 2 pencils and 2 pens.  It is important that students DO NOT BRING ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT INTO THEIR TESTING ROOM. We tell students to put their electronic equipment in their lockers before their exam.  The presence of this electronic equipment with your child will result in their score being invalidated and given a 0 on the exam.  This electronic equipment policy is New York State law.  Please contact anyone of our Assistant Principals—Ms. Moore (English); Mr. Kohm (Math); Mr. Rodrigues (Social Studies); Ms. Frank (Science) - if you have any specific questions about these exams.

All students are scheduled to report back to school on Tuesday, January 29 for the first day of the Spring term.

Thank you!

The Fashionable Times Blog Principal's Message 1.13.19

Greetings Fashion Families from your Principal, Daryl Blank.

As you are planning your schedule for the week, I hope you can attend our January Parents Association meeting this Wednesday, January 16 at 6:00 pm in Room 821.

On Monday, January 14, all Fashion Families are invited to the school for coffee and snacks in Room 127 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am with Assistant Principal of Family Engagement Danielle Silva.

This Thursday and Friday, it would be wonderful if you and your family could attend our SING musical performance.  SING is a fun and exciting musical competition show that is written, produced, performed and designed by the students.  Students are involved in SING in many different ways including set & costume design, dancing, singing, acting, musical performance, script & songwriting, and marketing. Our SING Coordinator, Ms. Vega, and our students have been rehearsing non-stop and we need to support their efforts – bring friends and families as we celebrate the performing arts at HSFI!  Thursday’s performance on January 17 is at 4:00 pm and Friday’s performance on January 18 is at 6:00 pm.

We have one week of school until the Fall term ends.  The grades that teachers submit at the end of January are the grades that colleges and universities will see.  Make sure your child finishes the semester strong.

We are happy to announce a new resource for HSFI students and families – we have created a Spring Semester and Summer Internship Opportunities website page posted in the Parent News section on the school website homepage at fashionhighschool.net. As we receive information about programs available in NYC, we will continue to post this information.  Please keep in mind that there are limited seats in these programs, all require that you fill out an application or waiver, and have very strict deadlines.  It is never too early to plan for spring and summer.  The link to the Spring Semester and Summer Program and Internship Opportunities page is

Please continue to encourage your children to deposit their Fashion Dollar tokens.  We want them back, so we can give them back to students so they spend them on rewards and privileges! And remember that students should spend their Fashion Dollars, that is what they are there for.

It is critically important that all HSFI students check their HSFI email & Jupiter Grades everyday.  We will be sending important information out through these tools – if students do not check them, they will miss out on some valuable opportunities and not know what is going on in the school.

Thank you!

The Fashionable Times Blog Principal's Message 1.6.19

Greetings Fashion Families from your Principal, Daryl Blank.

This week we are excited to continue our special First Monday activities.  Students will be in school from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm.  From 8:30 am to 9:25 am, students will have an opportunity to get tutoring and extra help from teachers who will be in their classrooms.  Students should use this time to see teachers for classes where they need extra assistance, have work to make-up or are concerned about improving their grade.  With the term ending in two weeks and Regents coming up, students should take advantage of this opportunity.  From 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, students will then have the opportunity to participate in a number of special activities where students expressed interest.  Those activities are on your child’s class program.

We have two weeks of school until the Fall term ends.  The grades that teachers submit at the end of January are the grades that colleges and universities will see.  Make sure your child finishes the semester strong – students should take advantage of staff tutoring and tutoring from our National Honor Society students that are available every day to help out their classmates.

January Regents will take place from Tuesday, January 22 through Friday, January 25.  Check with your child about whether or not they are scheduled to take any exams.  Regents exam invitations were distributed to students this past week.  The deadline for students to make any changes to their exam schedule is this Wednesday, January 9.  Students should see their guidance counselor to request the change.

Please continue to encourage your children to deposit their Fashion Dollar tokens.  We want them back, so we can give them back to students so they spend them on rewards and privileges! And remember that students should spend their Fashion Dollars, that is what they are there for.
