WELLNESS & ATHLETICS CURRICULUM AND CALENDAR

The 3^rd. floor gym will continue the badminton unit. This week we will we will start on the basic serves for Badminton.

The 10^th. floor gym will continue  the fitness unit.   We will be working on students individual fitness goals. 

Health Class:

This week the health class will continue there Nutritional and Physical activity unit. We will concentrate on guide lines for healthy eating.

Everyone must have a current medical on file with the Wellness and Athletic department as well as a parental consent form prior to trying out.

    PHYSICAL EDUCATION COURSE REQUIREMENTS

1. The Department of Wellness and Athletics is committed to improving every student’s physical fitness.  Every student must complete the NYCDOE physical fitness program that is called FITNESSGRAM.  Every single student – NO EXCEPTIONS, must complete the FITNESSGRAM program in full.

2. All students must purchase and wear the Fashion Industries High School PE uniform every day of class.  Physical education uniforms can be purchased at the school store. Students may not alter the PE uniform in any manner.  The school uniform consists of:

-          Fashion t-shirt

-          Fashion shorts

-          Athletic sneakers with shoelaces

-          No pantyhose or tights allowed EXCEPT HSFI leggings (uniform shorts must be worn over HSFI leggings)

-          No head coverings allowed- boys and girls.

-          Lock  ( Everyone must lock up their belongings in a locker in the locker-room)

-          3. If you are absent from class, you are required to bring a note from a parent/guardian or doctor to explain the absence the day you come back.  Late absence notes will not be accepted.  Undocumented absences will negatively affect student’s grades; ONLY explained absences may be made up.  Student will have one week to hand in make-up assignment given by the teacher. ( Late assignments will not be accepted)  You can also make-up time by attending various activities such as hiv/aids walk, breast cancer walk, walk to school day etc. etc. These activities will be ongoing throughout the school year .

4. You are required to arrive to class on time.  You have 5 minutes before and after class to change.  Points will be deducted from your grade due to lateness. Students must check in with their teacher when they come out of the locker room prepared. 

5. All personal belongings including clothes must be locked within the locker room.  All students must have a separate lock for their PE period.  Locks must be removed at the end of the period.  Any lock left on overnight will be clipped and need to be replaced at the student’s expense.  The school IS NOT responsible for lost or stolen property if their personal belongings were not locked up. 

6. No electronic devices of any kind are allowed in class.  (If continued violation of this policy teachers will lower student’s FINAL GRADE.)  The teacher will be fully supported by the principal, school administration, and the DOE, in regards to this rule.

7. No gum chewing, eating or drinking in the gymnasium, except water. 

8. Due to safety issues, no visible body piercings including dangling/hoop earrings or oversized necklaces/bracelets are allowed during class.  (If continued violation of this policy teachers will lower student’s FINAL GRADE.)

EFFORT/PARTICIPATION      (ie; attendance, performing warm up, engaging in activity)        60%

ASSESSMENTS                       (ie; literacy assignments, tests, quizzes, and projects)                  30%

COOPERATION                      (ie; safety, following instructions)                                                     10%
