An Excerpt from the article:
THANKS COACH FOR ALL OF YOUR HARD WORK!Alvarez turns Fashion Industries into winnerJeremy Alvarez is a young coach who knows what he wants.A native of the Bronx who ran on DeWitt Clinton's nationally ranked 4x400 (3:17) in 2004, and at Long Island University after that, Alvarez apprenticed as a coach at DeWitt Clinton under Bill Wagner. But really, what he wanted was to establish a program of his own."I like to defeat all odds," Alvarez said. "People think that you can't have a good track team because you're at a certain school."As a physical education teacher, you're going to see talent. At a school of 1,100 girls, you can find at least 15-20 good athletes."At Manhattan's High School of Fashion Industries, where Alvarez has worked and coached since 2010, he's done that.At the PSAL Championships, Fashion Industries ran with the city's established programs in a number of events. The team's 4x400 relay finished fifth (4:01), with freshman Lailah White finishing second in the 800 in 2:16.79."I saw the efficiency in her movement for her height," Alvarez said.
