The Fashionable Times Blog Principal's Message 4.15.18

Greetings Fashion Families from your Principal, Daryl Blank.

We have 8 weeks of classes left before Regents examinations as the school year winds down.  Make sure your children know this and appreciate the importance of finishing the school year strong.  Counselors will be programming students for summer school based on marking period 2 grades – the second marking period ends on April 27.  Students must understand the grades that they receive in June will be the ones that colleges will see.

As you are planning your schedule for the week, I hope you can attend our April Parents Association meeting this Wednesday, April 18 at 6:00 pm in Room 829.  This Parents’ Association meeting will be Sketch Night which will be a night of live model sketching, food, and fun.  Contact Assistant Principal Danielle Silva at (212) 255-1235 ext. 1251 or email her at DSilva3@hsfi.us if you have any questions about Sketch Night.

The question this week is not what is going on, but what is not going on!  Tuesday and Wednesday are Fashion Show preview days.  On Tuesday, the Virtual Enterprise students are having their Trade Show at Pier 94 in Manhattan.  The Whole Foods – HSFI Art Opening is on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.  The Health Corps sponsored Health Fair is on Wednesday as well.  Friday is intense with the National School Walkout, the Relationship Abuse Prevention Program’s Fashion4Justice Fashion Show and the day concludes with our first annual HSFI Carnival.  A lot going on at HSFI!!!

This Friday, April 20th there is a student-led protest being organized on the anniversary of the Columbine High School mass shooting that occurred in 1999.  The school’s National Honor Society and Feminist Club are organizing our school’s activities.  More information about this protest can be found on the following websites:
We will get more information to all members of the HSFI community before the end of the week.

Besides the homestretch of classes, the winding down of the school year signifies the beginning of our student work showcases.  In many cases, these student showcases are the culmination of four years of hard work by our students and it would be great to have Fashion Families in attendance to support them.  Our first student showcase is the opening of our International Center of Photography exhibit – the opening takes place next Wednesday, April 25 at 4:00 pm.  Our Entrepreneurship Showcase where our business students have been working on business plans that focus on Sustainability and Social Responsibility is on Tuesday, May 1.  Our Senior Art Show that showcases our Graphics & Illustration students opens on Friday, May 4.  Our public Fashion Show that showcases our Fashion Design students is on Friday, May 11.  As always, our window displays will reflect the amazing work that our Visual Merchandising students do on a daily basis.

Thank you!
